Day 2: A Zigzag Trail to Zarzebaki Summer Pastures (ascent 420m distance 8km)

A scenic walk through the hay fields of the Jaworzyna Valley and then up a wonderful zigzag sheep path to the summer pastures of Jarzebaki.
Here, against a back drop of the Radziejowej Ridge and the Tatra Mountains, we break for lunch and look at some of the abandoned grandmothers cheese making houses still standing in the pasture.
Afterwards we descend through the pine forest to the Lomika valley and along its bubbling river to meet our transport.

Day 3: Slovensky Raj & the Hornad River Cliffs (ascent 280m distace 9km )

We travel across the border into Slovakia and to an area known as Slovensky Raj [Slovak Paradise]
There we follow a wonderful one-way tourist route cut into the cliffs above Hornad River.
Then with the aid of ladders and chains we climb up beside the waterfalls in the small gorge of one of the rivers tributaries to the plateau above where we stop for lunch.
Later we meander down the forest trails back to our transport. Despite its spectacular nature this route is passable by most of us.

Day 4: Pieninski National Park & Three Crowns Mountain (ascent 580m distance 9km)

We travel to the Pieninski National Park an area of limestone outcrops above the Dunajec River.
We walk through this display of natural architecture where once thieves, vagabonds and poets used to roam, up to view point at the top of the three crowns mountain.
From here its often felt that you can touch the peaks of the Alpine Tatras and the rafts on the Dunajec that can be seen at your feet are in reality they're hundreds of feet below.
On our decent we take a lunch break and for those who would like, a quick dip in the warm river, on our way back to Piwniczna.

Day 5: Radziejowa, The Radziejowa Ridge & Obidza Mountain Hostel (ascent 760m distance 10km)

This walk is from high up the Czercz valley to the summit of Radziejowa, the highest point on the Radziejowa Ridge. Beginning from near the top of the valley we walk up past some of the highest farms and villages in the area. On this side of the valley they benefit from a lovely location and day long sunshine.
Soon we enter the forest and pick up the popular tourist path. After the peak of Wielki Rogacz it is a short steep climb to Radziejowas summit. Though forested a tall timber lookout tower has been built at the top. This is open to the public and gives an all round view across tree tops to numerous other Carpathian peaks.
To head down we retrace the path as far as Wielki Rogacz then head for the mountain hostel at Obidza. Here we often stop for a little refreshment and enjoy the view from the terrace before dropping down past the Sucha Dolina ski station to our transport.

Day 6: Szczawnica (Rest day)

Szczawnica is one of the most popular spa towns in the area. Here you can try the waters, relax, send your postcards home or maybe take the chair lift to Gora Palenica high above the town.

Day 7: Poprad Valley Railway & Cable Car To Jaworzyna Peak (ascent 240m ditance 11km)

We begin from the beautifully situated Wierchomla station and take a train up the single track railway to Krynica. This is a wonderful line and there are lovely views from the carriage windows as the train winds its way up the Poprad valley.
From the train station at Krynica we make our way past some of the spa towns wonderful old buildings and over a small ridge to the base station of the Jaworzyna cable car. We ride this up to Jaworzyna the highest peak on the Jaworzyna ridge.
After lunching at the summit, we follow the ridge making a gentle descent to the mountain hostel above Wierchomla. Here we often stop here for a little refreshment and enjoy the view from the terrace before finishing our walk down to the ski station and our transport.
